Three people were flown to the hospital in serious condition Friday after a rollover accident in Tooele County.
A 30-year-old man had pulled over his pick-up truck to the side of westbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 24. But when he reentered traffic about 6:55 p.m., witnesses say the truck suddenly shot across the highway into the median and rolled several times after the impact, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lance Christensen.
Investigators suspect that something might have gone wrong with the hand controls of the driver's truck — he's paraplegic, Christensen said.
The rollover ejected a 60-year-old woman from the truck. The vehicle wound up on its roof in the median and the driver and another woman had to be extricated from it by emergency responders.
All three, believed to be family, were flown in three separate helicopters to the hospital in serious condition. The woman who was ejected possibly suffered life-threatening injuries, Christensen said.
