Treat a child to a happy holiday • Halloween City at 5542 S. Redwood Road is asking the public to help provide costumes for foster children now through Oct. 26. Shoppers can purchase a costume to set aside for a child at a 20 percent discount. The store hopes to help up to 300 kids in foster care programs, including the Christmas Box House in South Salt Lake, which provides temporary shelter for children removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect.

Start raking • Want to dispose of all those fall leaves? The city has leaf bags available at the upstairs receptionist desk at City Hall, 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. (5325 South). You can drop off the bags between Oct. 13 and Nov. 30 at the garbage bins at Valley Regional Park, 5100 S. 2700 West.
