A former Utah Highway Patrol trooper will spend at least 15 years behind bars for sexually abusing a young girl, a judge ruled.

Kevin L. Davis, 61, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree felony sexual abuse of a child in June. On Sept. 21, he was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.

Three other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

According to court documents, Davis abused the girl on multiple occasions during the past three years.

Davis worked for the Highway Patrol until 2004, a UHP spokesman said, declining to release additional information about Davis' departure from the agency.
