An 18-year-old man died Saturday morning after a speeding minivan hit his car in West Valley City.

Witnesses told police a blue Mazda minivan going north on Bangerter Highway at a high rate of speed ran a red light at the overpass with State Route 201 a little after 6 a.m., said West Valley City Police Sgt. Mike Powell.

The minivan struck a brown Honda Accord that was going through the intersection with a green light, killing Francisco J. Garcia, who was in the Accord's front passenger seat. The crash also caused the Accord to hit a Dodge Neon that was following about 100 feet behind it, Powell said.

Two other men and two juvenile males were also taken to area hospitals with minor to serious injuries, including leg and head injuries. Powell could not immediately confirm in which vehicles the injured men were riding.

Police are investigating whether alcohol or drugs factored into the crash. Police expect the driver of the minivan will face several charges, according to a news release.
