A 59-year-old motorcyclist injured in a collision on State Road 52 in Spanish Fork remained in critical condition Thursday, though police say his vital signs reportedly had been stabilized.

Spanish Fork Police Chief Steve Adams said the update came from the man's family, which was keeping vigil at University Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The man was driving east Tuesday on Expressway Lane when he pulled up to a stop sign at the intersection with the highway. He then turned left onto SR 51, not seeing a southbound vehicle that struck him from behind.

The man was not wearing a helmet and sustained numerous head and chest injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, but Adams said it did not appear the motorist who struck the victim was at fault.
