A man stabbed during an attempted robbery in Kearns was released from the hospital late Wednesday night.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal confirmed Thursday that the 30-year-old man, initially reported to be in serious condition, had been treated for his wounds and released.

"His injuries turned out to be pretty superficial," Hoyal said.

Hoyal said the man told police he had stopped his car near Kearns High School, 5525 S. Cougar Lane, about 9 p.m. Wednesday due to car trouble. While he was outside the vehicle, the male suspect approached him on foot and demanded his wallet; when the victim refused, the man stabbed him and ran from the scene.

Hoyal said the victim then drove his car to a nearby home and called the police. The victim was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Health Center in Murray.

The suspect, described only as being about 5-foot-10 and stocky, remained at large Thursday.
