Kirk declined to release the name of the officer. He said the officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, but that he suffered extensive bumps and bruises and continued Wednesday to be X-rayed and examined to determine whether he suffered any longer-term injuries.
It was believed the deer darted in front of the motorcycle from a nearby cemetery.
The deer was killed on impact.
The accident is being investigated by the Utah Highway Patrol, per policy involving incidents within city limits involving city police officers.
