A 58-year-old man who died from an unknown cause Friday while driving on Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City was identified by authorities Saturday.

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden said the driver was Alfredo Hernandez of Aurora, Colo.

Several people called 911 about a passenger car that was driving erratically on northbound I-15 about 4:15 p.m. Friday. Callers said the man appeared to be slumped over the wheel, Roden said.

The car hit a wall and a delineator post before it came to a stop partly in the right shoulder of the ramp leading to westbound Interstate 80. Medical personnel arrived and tried to revive the driver, but he was dead.

Investigators are not sure what led to Hernandez's death. Roden said medical examiners will determine a cause of death in the next couple of weeks.

Hernandez was alone in the vehicle.
