An employee for Utah Fabrication in Tooele was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital after he got caught under a moving boxcar Friday morning on the business' property, Tooele police report.
Lt. Adrian Day said the man injured his legs after getting run over by the moving car, which was not being pulled by a locomotive. Day said the company was moving the cars with a tractor on its property at 691 James Way. The man was later identified by a family member as Jim Hodgson.
Hodgson was flown via helicopter to University Hospital. Though Day could not elaborate on the extent of his injuries, the family member said Hodgson's left leg was nearly cut off and his right leg was also injured.
As of Friday night, Hodgson was in surgery to save his left leg.
Police are not investigating the accident since it occurred on the work site's private property. The incident will instead be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to Tooele Police Chief Ron Kirby. A representative from OSHA was not immediately available for comment Friday. A request for comment from Utah Fabrication also was not returned.
