A man who ran away from police after being stopped in the Taylorsville area was caught Thursday afternoon with the help of police canine units.

The approximately 30-year-old fugitive was wanted on felony warrants that included theft and possession of stolen material, according to Unified Police detective Levi Hughes. Hughes said a joint criminal apprehension team attempted to arrest the man near 1300 W. Winchester Street in Taylorsville. He fled on foot, initiating a search that included authorities from Utah Highway Patrol, Unified Police, West Jordan Police and U.S. Marshals.

Hughes did not say whether the man was armed at the time of the pursuit. He was found by canine units near the South Jordan Canal on the 6500 South block in Taylorsville. The man was bitten by the police dogs when he did not follow police commands to surrender. Hughes said he was not armed at the time of his arrest.
