An elusive mountain man accused of burglarizing cabins in Iron, Garfield and Kane counties could be headed north, according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office.

A Wednesday media release from Sheriff Nathan Curtis states that Troy Knapp, 44, has been seen in the Seven Mile/UM Creek area near Fish Lake. Authorities in Iron County have a warrant for Knapp's arrest, alleging that he is responsible for dozens of burglaries in unoccupied cabins that go back as far as five years. Knapp was identified by Iron County authorities in February with the help of motion-activated hunter cameras that captured images of him moving through the remote Utah wilderness near Zion National Park. Now Knapp seems to be locating other cameras in Sevier County and deleting photos taken of him, Curtis said in the release.

Recent cabin burglaries in Beaver, Piute and Sevier counties are similar to those already tied to Knapp in other counties, the sheriff's office states. Knapp is said to be carrying at least one rifle and a pistol. Anyone who sees Knapp or one of his caches of material alleged to be stolen from nearby cabins is encouraged to call local law enforcement. Sevier County authorities also urge anyone who sees Knapp not to approach him.
