A man who sexually assaulted a woman and held her and her son captive for days until she summoned help via Facebook has been sentenced.

Troy Reed Critchfield, 33, pleaded guilty in July to three third-degree felony counts of aggravated assault, as well as several misdemeanor charges. He was sentenced to a year in jail and 36 months probation.

Critchfield, of 33, was arrested last December. According to court documents, Critchfield would not allow the woman or child to leave the Sandy home between Dec. 17 and Dec. 24. During that time, Critchfield allegedly beat the woman and sexually assaulted her.

Documents filed with the Salt Lake County jail at the time of Critchfield's arrest say the woman's phone was taken from her, but she managed to sneak into a closet and post a plea for help on Facebook. In the post, she said she and her son would be dead by the morning.
