A former Department of Corrections officer accused of having sex with a parolee has taken a plea deal that will keep her out of jail.

Teresa Freeman, 38, pleaded guilty this week in 3rd District Court to a reduced charge of attempted custodial sexual misconduct, a class B misdemeanor.

In September 2011, Freeman, of Orem, was working at the Orange Street correctional facility. According to court documents, Freeman and a parolee at the facility went to a Motel 6 on North Temple, where the two women had sex.

Freeman originally faced a third-degree felony charge, but the case was dismissed and re-filed as a class A misdemeanor. That charge was further reduced as part of the plea deal.

Judge William Barrett suspended a 90-day jail term. Instead Freeman was ordered to complete 20 hours of community service and spend a year on probation.
