Utah’s forecast for Friday called for scattered thunderstorms and rain showers as meteorologists predicted a grudging retreat by the heat going into this weekend.
High temperatures for the Wasatch Front were expected to dip below 90 degrees — a rare event this summer. Meanwhile ,the mercury was to step back from triple digits in southern Utah, slipping into the mid-90s.

Air quality statewide was rated "Green," or healthy, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.
Salt Lake City’s high temperature for Friday was pegged at 90, down two degrees from Thursday’s forecast; Ogden looked for 87 and 90 degrees, respectively; Provo 90 and 93; Logan 85 and 89; Wendover 84 and 88; Duchesne 83 and 85; Cedar City 85 and 89; St. George 96 and 99; and Moab 94 degrees both days.
