Toddler stable after suffering heat distress in a locked vehicle
A two-year-old girl is in stable condition after police say she was left in a hot vehicle on Thursday afternoon.
About 2:30 p.m., dispatchers got a call about the girl inside a locked vehicle that was parked outside a home on the 1400 West block of 2280 South in West Valley City.
Police arrived to find the toddler inside the home with her family, said West Valley City police Sgt. Mike Powell. The girl was suffering from "severe heat distress" and the family was trying to do what they could for her, Powell said.
She was rushed to the hospital as detectives investigated the incident. Powell said that any charges are pending completion of the investigation.
It was not clear how long the child was in the vehicle, but Powell warned that the temperatures are still hot enough that it's dangerous to leave any child or pet unattended.
