Salt Lake City police say it started out as birthday party — and ended up with a woman clad only her bra fleeing a Motel 6.
Police say a male suspect, booked into Salt Lake County jail Thursday on suspicion of kidnapping and assault, had turned 29 on Wednesday. He and a female friend went to the Motel 6 at 176 W. 600 South "to celebrate," a police report says.

However, the private party apparently turned sour, morphing to an argument that culminated in the birthday boy banging the woman’s head into the wall. When she tried to leave, he allegedly restrained her.
Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, the nearly naked woman fled the room. Several other tenants, noting the commotion and seeing the suspect in pursuit of the woman, detained the man until police arrived and made the arrest.
