A man who was electrocuted Thursday in Washington County was an off-duty volunteer Cedar City firefighter.
A press release from Cedar Fire Chief Paul K. Irons identified the victim as Kevin Scott Smith.
Smith, 27, was electrocuted and another man was shocked when their boom truck came into contact with an overhead power line. The Spectrum newspaper said the incident took place about 2 p.m. Thursday in New Harmony, where the two men and a third workman were trying to repair a water pump.
Theelectrical surge did not injure the third man but did start a brush fire that was extinguished a short time later by firefighters, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Smith is survived by his wife and three children. The fire department has set up a memorial fund at State Bank of Southern Utah for Smith to assist his family.
