Unified Police Department officers were on the lookout for a trio of smash-and-grab robbers who hit an estimated 50 vehicles early Thursday morning in the Midvale area.

UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said the reports of broken-out windows and thefts from the cars in five locations began coming in about 4:30 a.m. The cars were located in well-lit and crowded hotel and apartment complex parking lots, he said.

"This was pretty brazen. They just smashed in the windows and grabbed property like iPods, cell phones, cameras and golf clubs," Hoyal said.

The robbers, two of whom were described by witnesses as young Latino men, were seen driving away in a white, four-door passenger car.

Twenty cars in the parking lot at a Holiday Inn Express were broken into, Hoyal said.
