All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Salt Lake City Council • Will discuss how to put opinion questions before voters. Such initiatives are presently considered outside Utah law; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 5 p.m., City Hall, Room 326, 451 S. State St. The council also will interview Pete Giacoma for a seat on the Library Board.

Salt Lake County Council • Is expected to take action on Salt Lake City's proposal to team up on the development and operation of a large downtown theater, dubbed the Utah Performing Arts Center; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 1 p.m., County Government Center, North Building, Room 2003, 2001 S. State St. The council is scheduled to ratify its action at its 4 p.m. meeting in the first floor council chambers. Revisions of the county's business license ordinance also will be discussed at both meetings.

Sandy City Council • Will consider amending an ordinance on landscaping standards to prohibit recreational equipment, such as basketball standards, within the parkstrip; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 7 p.m., 10000 Centennial Parkway, Sandy. View the Sandy agenda.

South Jordan Planning Commission • Will hold public hearings and possibly take action on several items, including a target-shooting business called the Gun Vault at 1231 W.
