Murray police Sunday were searching for a male motorist who hit a woman along State Street and fled.
Police Sgt. Paul Christiansen said the 25-year-old woman was running southbound along the shoulder of the roadway near 5065 South about 12:30 a.m.
He said a witness reported the woman was struck by a southbound white or champagne-colored Mercedes convertible. The witness told officers that the impact sent the woman flying over the car and caused her to flip several times in the air before she landed in a gutter.
The driver fled the scene. The woman was transported to Intermountain Medical Center where she was expected to survive, he said.
Christiansen said police were looking for the driver, who was described as a balding white male about 50 to 60 years old. The newer- model Mercedes, which had its top down, possibly sustained some front-end or passenger-side damage, he said.
Police aren't sure why the woman was in the roadway because there is sidewalk where the crash occurred.
