A section of State Road 31 in Emery County will remain closed for at least several days as crews work to clean debris that covered the road after a flash flood Wednesday.

Heavy rains soaked the area Wednesday evening, causing flash floods in the wildfire stricken area. The heavy rain pushed debris onto a section of the roadway that is about 10 miles west of Huntington up to Miller's Flat near the Emery-Sanpete County line.

Utah Department of Transportation officials estimate that about one-quarter mile of the road at Pole Canyon is covered in debris, with some spots as deep as six feet.

Officials say they will not re-open the road until adequate safety features are restored, but did not give an estimation on how long that may be.
