A Midvale toddler was found wandering on a busy street about 1 a.m. Wednesday while his mother allegedly was at a nearby bar.

A neighbor told police she saw the child crying in the street but lost sight of him, according to jail documents released Friday. The officer found the toddler walking about two blocks away, on Center Street.

The mother later said she was at Old Towne Tavern and had left the child at home alone. When asked why she left, police wrote, "she stated the child was sleeping, so he should have been fine." The woman was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of child abuse, physical endangerment of a child and reckless endangerment.
