Two cars racing around a Murray curve collided, sending one careening into a power pole, a natural gas meter and nearby telephone and cable television control boxes Thursday, briefly triggering a small number of electrical and communications outages.
Unified Police Lt. Don Hutson said Friday that the accident, reported about 9 p.m. Thursday, occurred when the two vehicles side-swiped each other where Van Winkle Expressway curves into 700 East.

Both cars were believed totaled, but one of them slammed into the pole and utilities. Rocky Mountain Power, Comcast, Qwest and Questar crews had the damage repaired and services restored by 6:30 a.m. Friday. About a dozen homes were believed affected.
Neither of the male drivers, ages 19 and 20, suffered serious injuries. One of two teenage females with the males was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Hutson said the incident remained under investigation and no citations had yet been issued.
