A man in his 50s was in critical condition late Friday night after being hit by a car while walking across the street against a red light, according to police.

A car hit the man at 1500 South and State Street, according to Salt Lake City police Lt. Dave Cracroft.

The accident happened just before 11:30 p.m. The driver remained at the scene.

The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

No other information was immediately available.

This is the same area where a 6-year-old girl was killed after crossing at a crosswalk with her mother in March.
