An intense afternoon storm in Washington County dumped rain and hail on St. George and Santa Clara, leaving some streets under three to four feet of water.
About 5:30 p.m., a thunderstorm left mud, debris and standing water on roads and flooded residents’ basements.

"I’ve lived here 15 years, and I’d never seen it rain like that," said St. George city spokesman Marc Mortensen. "It simply overwhelmed our storm drain systems."
Crews cleared debris off streets and distributed sandbags to residents Sunday night and were planning to make road repairs Monday.
The National Weather Service received reports of one-inch hail about 5 p.m. in Santa Clara, forecasters said. A flash-flood warning was in effect for western Washington County in the area of Bull Valley and Beaver Dam Wash until 2 a.m.
Flooding was reported to have damaged about 100 homes and businesses, Mortensen said.
Meanwhile, warnings were lifted in Juab, Sanpete and Utah counties after Sunday’s rains did not produce significant flooding. Those counties have been burned by wildfires that have removed some of the natural safeguards against runoff.
The National Weather Service predicted a chance of more rain statewide on Monday. Temperatures were expected to reach the upper 80s in the northern half of the state and the mid-90s in the southern half.
