A Salt Lake City family of four were without a place to live after an apartment fire Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out inside a kitchen of a triplex at 1459 W. Pacific Ave. (400 South).

When firefighters arrived at about 2 p.m., they saw smoke and flames coming from inside the apartment. The flames were contained to the kitchen and did not spread to other units.
The family living in the apartment was not home during the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The American Red Cross Greater Salt Lake Area chapter is providing shelter, food and clothing for one adult and three children.
As firefighters fought the fire, they noticed a decrease in water pressure coming from the private hydrant for the complex. They found garbage and several children’s toys, including a troll doll, candy wrappers, aluminum cans and other things had been shoved into the hydrant. That debris blocked water and inhibited fire fighting efforts.
Salt Lake City Fire Department reminds owners of private hydrants to have them serviced and checked for debris on a regular basis.
