The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy in conjunction with an Ogden Fire Department investigation into an apartment fire that left a 75-year-old woman dead.
The victim of the early Tuesday morning blaze in a unit at the apartment complex at 615 S. Jefferson Ave. was identified by authorities Wednesday as Donna Marquart, a widow who lived alone.
Ogden fire investigators not only are looking for the cause of the blaze, but want to understand more about why it took nearly three hours for a 911 call to be made.
Ogden Fire Department Deputy Chief Eric Bauman said the 911 call did not come until 6:16 a.m., after a newspaper carrier heard the alarm and asked a neighbor in the eight-plex apartment complex to call for help.
Investigators learned that about 2:30 a.m., neighbors had heard the woman yelling. They went over and calmed her down. The fire is thought to have begun about an hour later.
But no 911 calls came during that time from the apartment complex. When firefighters finally were called to the scene, they arrived within four minutes, only to find the fire had burned itself out; the woman was found dead inside.
Bauman said the flames were contained to the victim's unit, which sustained heavy smoke damage.
