A fast-moving grass fire forced scores of homeowners to evacuate late Tuesday night before firefighters turned back flames, allowing North Ogden and Pleasant View residents to return to their abodes early Wednesday morning.
North View Fire District Capt. Brendon Hunt said the fire was first spotted about 10 p.m. Tuesday, and fighting the flames proved dicey at first for his crews and firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Plain City, Ogden and North Ogden who rushed to the scene to help.

"We’re still trying to figure out what started this fire, and we have a fire marshal on the scene today, but once it got going, it moved fast due to wind gusts of 15-20 mph," Hunt said. "It came right up to back yards and fences, as close as 20 feet to some houses before we got it out."
Hunt estimated 75-100 homes roughly in the area of 3900 North and 100 East were evacuated through "reverse 911" calls, but an exact count was not available. The six-acre fire was out within about two hours, and the last unit was pulled off the scene at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
"We had a lot of good community support and cooperation, and that helped us out a lot," Hunt said.
No fire-related injuries or property damage were reported.
