An Iron County man is recovering after being shot in the stomach on the Fourth of July.

The 51-year-old man told sheriff's deputies he had just wakened about 11:30 a.m. when he got into an argument with a woman he was living with near 5600 N. 8800 West in Beryl.

"He said she made a comment to him that he didn't like and he called her an abusive name," Detective Jody Edwards said. "She appeared with a weapon and shot him."

The man, who was shot once in the stomach with a .22-caliber rifle, remained in the hospital Friday, but was improving and had been taken out of an intensive care unit, Edwards said.

The 56-year-old woman was arrested and booked into the Iron County jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Her bail was set at $50,000.
