Utah forecast: Clear skies, warming temps on tap for weekend
First Published Jul 06 2012 10:00 am • Last Updated Jul 06 2012 10:20 am

That mist hanging over the Salt Lake Valley Friday morning, a vestige of Thursday’s refreshing rain, will be quickly banished by sunny skies and rising temperatures this weekend.

The National Weather Service is calling for a quick warming trend through Sunday. But a slight chance of thunderstorms will return come Monday.

In Salt Lake City, highs Friday will be around 86, rising to 95 on Sunday. Lows will be in the low 70s.

St. George will sizzle, with Friday’s high of 94 degrees zooming to 104 by Sunday. However, the moisture that will drift into northern Utah early next week will invade St. George first, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday.

Southeastern Utah is still in a bit moist, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms lingering today through Sunday. Highs will be in the mid-90s. That forecast holds for Price as well, where a slight chance of showers is forecast every day through Tuesday.

Thursday’s storm, which didn’t do much to help the state’s drought-like conditions, deposited more than a half-inch of rain in spots. Orem reported .66 inches, Spanish Fork and Salt Lake City .50, and Holladay was close behind with .46 inches.
