Cottonwood Heights • Flames came within 50 feet of homes before fire crews were able to knock down a 10-acre blaze at Crestwood Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Unified Fire Authority Capt. Lee Ascarte said flames as high as 20 feet charred grass, shrubs and trees in the park near 7700 South and 1700 East. Officials ordered the evacuation of about 10 homes west of the park after the fire was reported about 2 p.m. It took crews approximately 30 minutes to knock down the fire, Ascarte said.
