Summit County deputies nab three in apartment complex shootings

Three young men were arrested early Thursday morning after Summit County sheriff's deputies rushed to a Park City-area apartment complex where gunfire had been reported.

Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds said the suspects all have "extensive criminal histories" and appeared drunk when deputies took them into custody about 3:30 a.m.

Edmunds said the case began as a 911 call about a fight in progress at 6180 North Fox Point Circle. While deputies were en route, dispatchers received several more calls that shots had been fired.

"Upon arrival, deputies immediately apprehended one suspect, and eventually apprehended two additional suspects with the assistance of a K-9 unit. A large-caliber pistol and five shell casings were located inside [a] suspect vehicle," the sheriff said.

He said that while it appeared one of the suspects had fired several shots indiscriminately, one of those bullets did strike an unoccupied residence as the suspects — ages 18, 17 and 16 — attempted to drive away.

One adult and two juveniles were in custody Thursday awaiting decisions on the filing of formal charges, Edmunds said.
