The fire, of unknown origin, burned in grass near a mobile home park and just west of the Jordan River, but no structures were involved.
No injuries were reported, and the fire — which initially poured white smoke into the southwestern Salt Lake County skies — appeared to have been extinguished by 1:25 p.m. Firefighters remained on the scene to mop up any remaining hot spots.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
