One person was killed and another critically injured Sunday morning when their vehicles collided head-on in Wasatch County.
Kabrina Hawkins, 22, was driving a Ford Focus north on State Road 189 near Deer Creek about 11 a.m. when an oncoming Dodge Durango crossed the center line and struck the Focus head-on, Utah Highway Patrol troopers said. One of the drivers was trapped in the wreckage, troopers said.
One person was transported by medical helicopter and another by ground ambulance. Hawkins, of Utah County, died. The driver of the Durango, a 59-year-old American Fork woman, suffered critical injuries to her spine, chest and arms.
Authorities closed Highway 189 in both directions for several hours as they investigated the crash.
Investigators believe neither alcohol nor drugs were involved, but speed may have been a factor.jstecklein@sltrib.com
