Civics Central: Salt Lake City free-fare zone up for hearing

Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Canyons Board of Education • Is scheduled to approve a new contract for superintendent David Doty, adopt a budget for next school year and approve the employee insurance benefit package; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 9361 S. 300 East, Sandy. View the Canyons agenda.

Jordan Board of Education • Adopts 2012-13 budget and discusses proposed bid of $90,440 to provide a GPS tracking system for district vehicles to allow real-time tracking and historical information on where vehicles travel; Tuesday, June 12, 6 p.m., 7905 S. Centerville Planning Commission • Holds a public hearing on a request for a permit for a place of worship at 260 E. Clearfield City Council » Holds a public hearing on the proposed fiscal 2013 budget; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 55 S. State St., Clearfield. View the Clearfield agenda.

Clinton City Council » Considers changing the Heritage Park bowery rental policy and authorizing the Parks Advisory Board to sell bricks to raise funds for a future Veterans Memorial; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 2267 N. 1500 West, Clinton. View the Clinton agenda.

Davis County Commission • Considers a request from the election director for approval of poll workers and receives information about the primary early vote schedule that runs June 12-22; Tuesday, June 12, 10:30 a.m., 28 E. Magna Township Planning Commission • Has canceled its Thursday, June 14, meeting because there were no items on the agenda.

Ogden City Council • Will consider amending its parade ordinance to allow people to reserve spots along the route with unattended blankets, cabanas, chairs or sleeping bags; Tuesday, June 12, 6 p.m.; third floor chambers at 2549 Washington Blvd., Ogden. View the Ogden agenda.

Salt Lake City Council • Will stage a public hearing to determine if free bus service downtown should be canceled; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., City Hall, 451 S. State St., Room 336.

Salt Lake County Council • Is expected to put the Millcreek incorporation vote on the November general election ballot; Tuesday, June 12, 4 p.m.; County Government Center, North Building, 2001 S. State St. In work sessions that begin at 1 p.m., the council also will review designs for Capitol Theatre, a study on the animal shelter's future needs and an interlocal agreement with Riverton for animal control.

South Weber City Council • Considers adopting the proposed fiscal 2013 budget; Tuesday, June 12, 6 p.m.; 1600 E. South Weber Drive, South Weber. View the South Weber agenda.

Alpine City Council • Will review comments from the public hearing and adopt the budget for fiscal year 2012-13; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 20 N. Main, Alpine.

Draper City Council • A study session on a resolution to withdraw the bond (recreation center) proposition from the June 26, 2012, ballot.; Tuesday, June 12, 6 p.m., 1020 E. Pioneer Road, Draper.

Bluffdale City Council • Consideration and vote on a resolution adopting an amended budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 14350 S. 2200 West, Bluffdale.

Pleasant Grove City Council • Will consider for adoption a resolution approving and adopting the Pleasant Grove City's Fiscal Year 2011/2012 amended budget; Tuesday, June 12, 6 p.m., 86 E. 100 South, Pleasant Grove.

Herriman City Council • Public hearing on final amendments to the current year's budget for the period of July 1 through June 30, 2012; Thursday, June 14, 7:30 p.m., 13011 S. Pioneer St., Herriman.

Sandy City Council • Will adopt an ordinance regulating the sale and discharge of fireworks; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 10000 Centennial Parkway, Sandy.

Orem City Council • A public hearing on the tentative budget, including property tax increase; Tuesday, 6 p.m., 56 N. State St., Orem.

Provo City Council • A public hearing to consider the proposed restructuring of business license fees; Tuesday, June 12, 7 p.m., 351 W. Center St., Provo.
