Murray police are leaning toward an accidental cause for the drowning of a man whose body was found in Little Cottonwood Creek Tuesday night.

Murray police spokesman Kenny Bass said the 38-year-old man, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, had a history of substance abuse.

"We're still investigating, but he may have been under the influence [prior to entering the water]," Bass said Wednesday. "There's nothing suspicious at this stage, so we're thinking it was accidental."

The body was spotted by a passerby about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the rapidly flowing creek near 5100 South.
