Murray Police have arrested a Sandy man suspected in a shooting death at a May 19 party.
Jonas Rodriguez Perez, 28, was arrested without serious incident Saturday at a home in Magna, said Murray police Officer Kenny Bass.
Detectives believe Perez started fighting with 21-year-old Alvert Mike at a party at 593 W. 6640 South on May 19. The conflict, which investigators believe may be gang-related, escalated until Perez allegedly shot Mike. He fled before police arrived about 3:40 a.m.
The investigation focused on Perez and detectives found out he would be at the Magna house early Saturday, Bass said.
Perez was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County jail about 3:30 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of murder, weapons violation, two counts of possession of a forged writing device and no driver’s license, as well as an expired license warrant, according to jail logs. He is also being held on an immigration hold; Bass said Perez is an undocumented immigrant who has previously been deported and returned to the country.
A search of Utah court records shows Perez had two traffic citations and was arrested on a drunk driving with injury warrant from San Diego two years ago.
