An Ogden police officer suffered minor injuries when a drunken driver hit his car early Sunday morning, police said.

It happened near 900 Patterson St., just east of Quincy Avenue, in an area officers had blocked off with lighted police cars on an unrelated call, according to a department press release.

About 4:30 a.m., a 24-year-old man driving a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse came toward the cordoned-off area from the west.

Officers called and gestured for him to stop, but the man allegedly hit the gas, forcing two officers to move out of the way to avoid being run over. He hit a parked car, then veered and struck a police car head-on.

The police officer, whose named was not released but was described as a veteran patrol officer, was treated at McKay-Dee Hospital and released. The driver wasn't seriously hurt. The crash severely damaged his car, the police car and the parked car.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers investigated the accident, and the 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into the Weber County Jail.
