If you plan to hit the road this Memorial Day weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation urges you to plan ahead — and take into account several construction-related road closures and restrictions.
Here is a list of UDOT construction "hot spots" to be aware of this holiday weekend:
Interstate 15 in Utah County • The northbound offramp at Provo Center Street is closed for up to 40 days for permanent ramp and freeway construction.
Interstate 84 in Morgan County • Between Mountain Green and Morgan, all traffic is shifted to the westbound lanes while crews reconstruct the eastbound lanes. One lane remains open in each direction. Loads wider than 12 feet are prohibited.
U.S. 40 in Wasatch County • Intermittent lane restrictions are scheduled in both directions near Jordanelle Reservoir for concrete maintenance and curing. Northbound drivers should expect possible 15-minute delays.
U.S. 189 in Wasatch County • One lane is open in each direction near Deer Creek Reservoir. Barrels still will be in place, and the speed limit is lowered to 50 mph in the construction zone. Workers are installing rock-fall protection and widening the road.
S.R. 14 in Iron County • The road will remain open until Tuesday at 7 a.m. The road has not yet been paved, so motorists will be traveling on road base (dirt/gravel) during this time. Flaggers will be on site to assist. S.R. 14 is being repaired after a major landslide in October 2011.
I-15 in Washington County • No closures are anticipated, but delays are possible due to reduced speeds through the construction area from Toquerville to Pintura. Crews are constructing a new climbing lane for trucks.
I-70 in Sevier and Emery counties • One lane is open in each direction from Fremont Junction to Salt Wash. Motorists should be prepared for slower freight traffic on uphill grades. Workers are repaving I-70 and upgrading signs and guardrails.
