No UTA trains, buses Monday

No TRAX, FrontRunner or bus service will be offered Monday because of the Memorial Day holiday.

Service resumes Tuesday.

In 2010, the Utah Transit Authority began cutting all service on Memorial Day and Labor Day to help make budget ends meet during tough economic times. Previously, it had offered Sunday schedules on those days.

"We chose to cut them because historically they had low ridership," UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter said. "It also allowed us to keep other service that we would have had to cut otherwise."

Carpenter said UTA has had a longtime policy not to offer service, other than ski buses, on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

On all other holidays, it offers either regular or reduced schedule service.
