Police have arrested a fugitive who allegedly escaped in a high-speed chase Saturday after he was fired upon by an officer who he tried to hit with his car.

John Jesse Samora, 21, was wanted for violating his parole and taken directly to the Utah State Prison on Wednesday, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

Investigators initially thought Samora may have been hurt and searched hospitals for him, but he did not appear to be injured when he was found by the Safe Streets Task Force at a home on the 1200 West block of 500 South in Salt Lake City, Hoyal said.

Samora is suspected of aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing and resisting arrest.

Unified Police officers originally tried to pull Samora over about 3 a.m. Saturday in Kearns. He darted into a parking lot instead. As an officer walked toward his car, Samora backed out of the space toward him. The officer fired a shot and the Lincoln Town car sped away.

Taylorsville police later spotted Samora’s car and gave chase, but stopped as he ran red lights at 70 mph.
