Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Salt Lake City Council • Will be briefed on plans to eliminate the downtown free-fare zone for buses and will discuss 2012-13 budget matters, including the city's golf courses and a proposal to close the Jordan River Par 3 course; Tuesday, May 22, 2 p.m.; City Hall, 451 S. State St.

Salt Lake County Council • County Mayor Peter Corroon will reveal the names of the 15 people he is nominating for the commission to oversee the revision of the county's Foothills and Canyons Overlay Zone (FCOZ) ordinance; Tuesday, May 22, 2:30 p.m., in Room 2003, North Building, County Government Center, 2001 S. State. The council is expected to vote on the nominees at its formal 4 p.m. meeting.

Alpine City Council • Reconsiders funding for the Alpine Young Women of Distinction program in the next fiscal year budget, considers a request from the Miss Timpanogos program and considers whether to adopt a different approach to handling fireworks in the city; Tuesday, May 22, 7 p.m., 20 N. Bountiful City Council • Holds a public hearing on a request to rezone property at 600 North and 400 East from single family residential to single family residential planned development overlay; Tuesday, May 22, 7 p.m., 790 S. 100 East, Bountiful. View the Bountiful agenda.

Canyons School District • Hosts a town hall meeting to get input on the qualities and characteristics the community would like in a new principal at Mount Jordan Middle School; Thursday, May 24, 6 to 7 p.m., at the Canyons Support Services Center, 9361 S. 300 East. 

 

Clearfield City Council • Considers approval of bid awards for the 475 East sanitary sewer repair project and for theatre seating at the Community Arts Center; Tuesday, May 22, 7 p.m., 55 S. State St., Clearfield. View the Clearfield agenda.

Clinton City Council • Will hear an appeal of a decision of the community development director related to the sign at the old Centennial Bank building and holds a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance that prohibits use of a front yard for parking; Tuesday, May 22, 7 p.m., 2267 N. 1500 West, Clinton. Davis County Commission • Considers an agreement with Davis Hospital and Medical Center for paramedic clinical training and gives notice of an award for the Hooper Draw Drop Structure project; Tuesday, May 22, 10 a.m., 28 E. State St., Farmington. View the Davis County agenda.

Herriman City Council • Holds a hearing on the tentative budget for fiscal 2013; Thursday, May 24, 7:30 p.m., 13011 S. Pioneer St. (6000 West), Herriman. View the Herriman agenda.

Jordan Board of Education • Discusses the 2012-13 budget at a study session, then approves the student fee school at its business meeting; Tuesday, May 22, 4:30 p.m.; 7387 S. Campus View Drive | West Jordan. The business portion of the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

Lehi City Council • Considers adopting a fiscal 2013 budget and an agreement with Utah Transit Authority that would establish a quiet zone in the city; Tuesday, May 22, 7 p.m., 153 N. 100 East, Lehi. View the Lehi agenda.

West Valley City • Considers a revised plan for the proposed apartments at the Highbury at Lake Park development. Mayor Mike Winder will present Star of Excellence awards to the top 3 percent of the city's 11th grade students based on their cumulative GPA and their Utah Basic Skills Competency scores; Tuesday, May 22, 6:30 p.m., 3600 S.
