A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was hospitalized Sunday after he was involved in a car accident on Interstate 15.

UHP authorities said the trooper was in his vehicle at around 8 a.m. Sunday while he was staged in the median of I-15 near 200 North in Kaysville. The driver of a southbound Mini Cooper veered into the median and hit the trooper's vehicle from behind.

The trooper was transported to the local hospital with possible broken bones and neck and back pain. The man driving the Mini Cooper was treated on the scene for facial cuts, but his injuries were not serious. Authorities said it appears the man driving the Mini Cooper fell asleep.
