Eight people in Orem were displaced after their home caught fire Thursday.Orem Fire Sgt. Craig Martinez said the fire began just before 4:30 p.m. at 262 E. 700 North. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Martinez said the homeowner and baby daughter were in the home when the blaze began, and were able to get out of the home safely.

The home received about $100,000 worth of damage, Martinez said, and the fire was contained mostly to the back of the home and the attic.

Martinez said it took fire crews about 20 minutes to douse the fire.

The Red Cross reported that all eight people who live in the home had friends and family to stay with, but the organization still provided them with clothing and food.

Martinez said the home is too damaged for people to stay in, and had extensive smoke damage.jmiller@sltrib.com
