Of the fifth day of the search for a 4-year-old boy believed to have drowned in the Weber River, authorities said they were focusing on cleaning debris from the river in anticipation of divers entering the water once again.
Searchers wrapped up Wednesday's search for Corbin Anderson by 4 p.m. and planned to revisit the scene Thursday, but Weber County sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther said authorities did not know when they would start or how many people would be at the riverbank.
"There's just so much they can do," Lowther said. "You can only walk the bank and kayak it so many times. ... We're not walking away. I'm not saying we're done. We just can't do the divers because the water is too high."
Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle said some of the crews' attention has shifted to cleaning debris from the river near 21st Street. Croyle said the public works department had been contacted for assistance."The [Weber County Search and Rescue] divers won't be going in for several days," Croyle said Wednesday. "We are cleaning stuff up, and getting garbage and debris."
The boy tumbled into the river Saturday evening while standing on a boulder so his family could take his picture, police have reported.
His parents jumped into the cold, spring runoff-fed water after him, but were unable to reach the child before the current carried him away.
Divers had searched the river for the first three days after the boy fell in the river, but they did not return Tuesday because the water was moving too quickly and there was too much debris in the river.
