Ogden police identify boy presumed drowned in Weber River

Like a washing machine, Weber River's swirling currents spin divers.

Ogden police on Monday confirmed the identity of a 4-year-old boy presumed drowned in the Weber River as divers and others continued the search for the child's body.

Corbin Anderson was standing on a boulder near 300 W. Exchange Road so his family could take his picture about 5:45 p.m. Saturday, said Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle. Corbin fell into the river. His family, from Layton, could not reach him before the waters carried him away.

Authorities, who searched until sunset on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, have said the boy is presumed drowned.

On Monday, the search was focusing on a stretch of water between 17th and 24th streets.

"We're going to have people walking the banks," Croyle said early Monday. "We're going to have divers."

Search efforts will continue Tuesday, police said.

Croyle said searchers believe the boy is in a pool below the surface of the water.

Divers and water rescue teams from Weber and Summit counties were assisting in the search Monday. Weber County sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther compared the river to a "washing machine" with swirling currents that spin searchers in the water.

"It's just so turbulent, once they get in there," Lowther said.

Lowther said one diver was knocked into a rock and another had his mask torn off, but there have been no injuries to searchers.

Two women speaking on behalf of the victim's family told KUTV 2News on Monday that donations are being taken at America First Credit Union and Wells Fargo Bank branches under Corbin's name.
