A man suspected of shooting at his wife then barricading himself inside a Riverton committed suicide early Monday.
Police have not disclosed the man’s name. The shooting and standoff happened after the man argued with his wife at near 5000 W. Duncan Meadows Lane (13430 South).

About 6:15 p.m. the wife had exited the home and was leaving when the husband fired a gunshot in her direction, said Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal. The bullet did not hit the woman.
When police arrived at the house, the man made threats to officers and himself, Hoyal said. A SWAT team was deployed. Immediate neighbors were evacuated, and a reverse-911 call went out to all homes in a two-block radius, urging residents to go to their basements in case of further gunfire.
The man eventually stopped communicating with police. A robot was sent into the home about 4 a.m. and found the man dead from what Hoyal said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hoyal didn’t know what time the man died.
Hoyal confirmed the man has served in the military, but authorities had no details about his service.
