Utah students interested in health careers are invited to a free conference Saturday at the University of Utah, where they can learn about getting into graduate and undergraduate programs in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, physician assistance, public health, and biomedical research.
The Navigating Through Healthcare Careers Conference, open to all high school and college students, runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Health Science Education Building. It is sponsored by the Utah chapter of the Latino Medical Student Association, a non-profit dedicated to volunteering in medically under-served communities, as well as increasing the number of students from underrepresented communities in health fields.
Workshops, which will be conducted in both English and Spanish, will by led by admissions officials from various fields, and some will be staged in hands-on lab-style settings.
Attendance is open to students' families, and includes breakfast and lunch. Students should preregister online at www.lmsautah.org">http://www.lmsautah.org, or call 801-598-4117.
Attendance is free, but participants will be asked to leave a pint of their blood in honor of Cesar Chavez. The conference is participating in a national blood drive held in the late labor activist's name.
