A woman says she fought off a man with a knife Tuesday who tried to rape her on the Jordan River trail in Taylorsville.

The woman and the dog she was walking were both OK, said Taylorsville police Sgt. Mike Judd. The woman said the attack occurred about 2:30 p.m. on a side trail near 3950 S. 1000 West.

As the woman was walking her dog, a man with a knife appeared and tried to rape her, Judd said. The woman fought back, Judd said, and ran. The woman reported the attack about an hour later.

Police are trying to find the suspect. He is described as white, in his mid-30s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds with short dark hair. He was clean shaven and wore a black hoodie. Anyone with information can contact Taylorsville police by calling 801-743-7000.
