Unfinished home starts on fire in Woods Cross
First Published Apr 17 2012 05:00 pm • Last Updated Apr 17 2012 05:00 pm

No one was injured in a Woods Cross house fire Tuesday that caused $250,000 in damage to an unfinished structure.

The fire began in the basement of a home that was being built at 1642 S. 2095 West at about 2:30 p.m., said South Davis Metro Fire Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett.

Bassett said the home was empty when the fire started. It was not owned by anyone, he said, and was still being constructed, with half of the outside stucco finished and just drywall on the inside.

It took about 45 minutes to extinguish the fire, Bassett said. He said investigators were on the scene Tuesday evening examining how the fire may have started.

It is estimated the fire has caused a $250,000 loss, Bassett said, but if the foundation has not been cracked or damaged, it is possible that the house can be salvaged, and will just need to be re-framed.
